It’s July 4th which means people in the United States will celebrate Independence Day today. With July 4th celebrations typically come fireworks, so I wanted to share information about two fireworks recalls from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Black Cat Fireworks (pictured below) have been recalled because unexpected debris can scatter that can hurt the user or bystanders.
Fireworks Over America fireworks (pictured below) have been recalled because the parachute connected to each unit can become entangled in power lines causing the potential for electrical shocks to the user and bystanders.
Follow the links above for more information about each recall.
Have a safe and happy 4th of July!

While the writers of the b5media Lifestyles Channel may be scattered about globally, one thing we all have in common is a celebration of fireworks. Whether it’s the U.S. and our Fourth of July - or a very different kind of holiday in Perth - we all know the unique smell that penetrates the air and the sense of freedom the mere sound of them instill. There is truly something so divine about a celebration of fireworks - they do create some of the most treasured memories. Follow the links to read about all the great memories!
Here on PlayLibrary I shared my memories of playing the classic game of Zimm Zamm during my family’s annual July 4th barbecue celebration. Read More

This month, b5media’s Lifestyles Channel bloggers are being asked to share a blast from the past related to the U.S. July 4th holiday. When I think of my family celebrating Independence Day when I was a child, I remember going to the town parade, which included mostly fire engines and soccer teams, in the morning then spending the rest of the day outdoors using our pool and playing games such as the classic Zimm Zamm from Mattel.

I have one more game for girls to share as part of my series on games for girls. Today, I’m going to take a look at the classic LITE-BRITE game from Hasbro, which is also available in a version just for girls - the LITE-BRITE Flat Screen Pink.
The LITE-BRITE Flat Screen Pink is small and perfect for the car. It includes10 design sheets and a storage area for 200 pegs. A light bulb is also included, but the 3-D batteries that are required are not included.
The LITE-BRITE Flat Screen Pink retails for just $9.99 from the Hasbro website, and it’s recommended for ages 4 and up, although I think 4 years old seems a bit young for this toy. What do you think?

In continuation with last week’s series of posts about games for girls (particularly tween girls), today’s post is about Bling Dominoes Pink.
Not only does Bling Dominoes Pink come in a pink leatherette carrying case, but each domino is decorated with pink jewels! The classic game of Dominoes is one of strategy that really makes players think. Bling Dominoes Pink is recommended for ages 7-12, but I’m certain older girls would love it, too!
Bling Dominoes Pink retails for just $12.99 from Toys ‘R Us and seems like a great gift!

Today’s games for girls post is about another Hasbro product - Monopoly Pink Boutique. It’s the classic Monopoly board game with a girlish twist. Instead of buying properties like Boardwalk and Park Place, players buy malls, hair salons, spas and fashion boutiques (like Jillian’s Jewelry Store and Savannah’s Super Spa) , go shopping, pay cell phone bills, and instead of Chance and Community Chest cards, players pick Text Message cards and Instant Message cards. Even the money, dice and property cards are pink!

Time for the second post in my series of games for girls (check out yesterday’s post about Jenga Pink GirlTalk). Today we’ll take a look at Twister Pink - a girlish twist on a classic game.
Twister Pink works just like the original Twister game. Spin the spinner and put your hand or foot on the color the spinner lands on. Keep going until just one person is left standing, and that person is the winner. Twister is always great for laughs and Twister Pink should definitely get girls laughing. It comes in a cute carrying bag and all of the traditional primary colors have been replaced with pinks and fun patterns.
Twister Pink is suggested for children (and tweens) ages 6 and up, and it retails for $19.99 from Toys ‘R Us. This looks like the perfect game for a slumber party!
What do you think? Would your daughter and her friends like Twister Pink?

This week, I’m going to post about a variety of classic board games made just for girls. First up - the Jenga Pink GirlTalk game.
Jenga Pink GirlTalk is a twist on the classic game of Jenga where players remove one wooden piece from a tower at a time trying not to let the tower fall. Not only are the Jenga blocks pink, but each features a different question such as, “If you had one wish, what would you wish for? or “Who do you have a crush on right now?” As the blocks are pulled from the tower, players have to answer the questions, which adds a lot of fun and laughs to the traditional game of strategy.
This game is perfect for tween girls and would make a great party activity! It’s made for ages 8-15 and retails for just $19.99 from Toys ‘R Us.
Have your kids played Jenga Pink GirlTalk? What did they think?
